The First Chill Cable Knit Sweater Jacket is worked in a dense, hand-knit-looking texture - a pebbled ground broken up by thick cable braids that run through the body and sleeves - so it holds its own boxy, sculptural shape instead of slumping the way most knits do by noon. The wide elbow-length sleeves are the whole trick: cut generous and short on purpose, they slide over a long-sleeve tee or a button-down without bunching at the arm, which means this layers where a normal cardigan can't. A mock stand collar keeps your neck warm without a scarf, and the two-way zip lets you open the hem for a little shape when you'd rather not wear it closed. Throw it over a fitted turtleneck with wide-leg denim on the first properly cold morning, or wear it open over a shirt dress and boots for something a bit more considered. The layer you'll keep by the door.
